Annecy adventures / Les aventures d'Annecy

A few years back, I spent 3 seasons in Annecy, France...yep, that's right,
3 seasons, but it only took 3 days to do it....:)

It's a gorgeous, ancient city, near the Swiss Alps, that I just fell for.

We stayed in Hotel Au Faisan Dore... which was a pleasant surprise when it came to  space, after all the prior shoe boxes.  Oohhh  sooo warm, as well, which turned out to be a lifesaver!

Season 1:  'Colder than anything I have felt ' season

First day, so lets get out and about! That's what we said....so, all rugged up,  that's what we did! I'm sure we were the only ones on the streets....I swear, I thought my ears were going to SNAP OFF! The whole city obviously knew better.....ugh!

This is what we should have been wearing !

We became resourceful......early lunch at Bar de Pont 'Morens', as the name seemed to be almost  fitting....tiny cafe.....hot pizza....and red wine (medicinal purposes only......).

We looked onto Annecy's old prison, one of the most photographed spots in France ,outside Paris, and felt sorry for the poor blighters who had called it home....yet it looks so charming now  as a museum ....:)

Season 2: Le Printemps est arrive! SPRING

The next day we thought we would give it another shot, so off we went......had we slept for 3 months or something???? There were people everywhere, out and about, enjoying the most beautiful spring day in the local park by the lake,  the difference in 24 hours was crazy :) and very welcome!

Perfect weather for a luncheon  cruise on Lake Annecy. Yaay.

Brilliant! Delicious food and wine...

And views to die for!

The service was so good, we decided our waiter was surely  hoping we would sponsor him  and bring him home with us!

Let's wind it up with a couple of 'must sees'..

Market day , of course..

a walk through the historical  arches of the old town....

and a visit to the Chateau d'Annecy museum......

if only to catch a glimpse of Annecy from above. Lovely :)

Well, there you have it.The beautiful Annecy. It gets a big tick from me.

Oh yes......the third season???? The day of departure??? We woke up to this :)

A perfect au revoir, from a perfect place.

A bientôt, Gigi !

  1. I really laughed when I read the first line! We spent 3 nights in Annecy in mid-July on our way to Croatia two years ago and we had the same experience. We rode our bikes in furious rain for nearly an hour one day, getting back to the car cold and soaking wet. The next day the sun was out (and so was everyone else). But I still love it!

  2. When I was a teenager in Australia learning French at school, my French penfriend was the daughter of a boulangère in Annecy, but I've never visited the city and long ago lost contact with the penfriend.

    1. Hi Susan, I loved Annecy, so picturesque. If you ever get the chance, maybe you should visit :) Who knows, if you remember your penfriend's name...she could still live there! Stranger things have happened :)

  3. Hi Gigi, not sure if you are still blogging, but we called Menthon-St-Bernard home (we looked out on the castle in your photo from our balcony) for several years before buying in the next village around the Annecy Lake. We now live mostly in Sydney, but France holds a special place in our hearts. We think it is perfect in all seasons! (But you are in France, Madame)
